ALL HE WANTS IS TO SAVE HIS BROTHER, BUT NOW HE’S ABOUT TO BECOME PRESIDENT?!

The terrorist attack on the Peace Conference has left Academy Island in a precarious position. Distrust of them has begun to run rampant among other nations.

To fix the problem, the Board of Directors has decided to give Anthony, the person who almost single-handedly saved the peace conference delegates during the terrorist attack, the illustrious position of President. However, Anthony has no desire to become president. All he wants is to bring his brother out of a coma.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, shadowy figures are plotting Anthony’s demise…

CHAPTER 1 PREVIEW

“This is a disaster,” said an older man with gray hair, dark eyes, and wrinkles lining his mouth. “Our reputation is at an all time low. The many foreign delegates who arrived for the peace conference are calling our competency into question, claiming it was our negligence that allowed the Sons of Liberty to infiltrate our forces so thoroughly. Some of the delegates have even suggested we deliberately allowed a terrorist organization into our ranks! I cannot believe they would even insinuate such a thing! As if their ranks haven’t also been infiltrated!”

As the old man slammed his fist onto the table before him, Lucretia Incanscino swung her legs back and forth, appearing bored, though she was paying closer attention to all the people present more than anyone else.

She discreetly swiped her hand underneath the table to activate a holographic screen and looked up the information on this man. Murphy Adams. 65 years old. Born in the Americas and immigrated when he was fifteen. He eventually became a member of the Board of Directors. His role was the equivalent to the Secretary of the Treasury. He was in charge of Academy Island’s finances.

The room they were using was longer than it was wide and featured a table that could seat about twenty people. Each seat was currently filled. Most of them were old men well past their prime, but there were a few younger ones like the black-haired man who looked to be in his late thirties and the dark-skinned woman who seemed even younger. Mid-twenties, perhaps? However, they were outliers.

Also, the one among them who looked the youngest also happened to be the oldest.

These people currently shouting like children who hadn’t gotten their way were the Board of Directors, the leading governmental body of Academy Island responsible for the safety and prosperity of the island nation’s citizens.

At present, they did not act at all like reasonable human beings who had been given such a responsibility, but that was neither here nor there. Regardless of her own thoughts on the matter, everyone present was an important individual who could decide the fate of every citizen on this island.

“It is rather unfathomable of them to think we would willingly let ourselves be infiltrated by terrorists,” another old man said. His hair was completely shock white, he wore a crisp business suit, and his eyes were a light blue. “The reason they were able to infiltrate us so deeply was because Felton had somehow climbed his way into the position of Security Chief. He was in charge of the Academy Island Private Security Forces with his honest, forthright attitude. He never once displayed contempt for demons and always seemed to have Academy Island’s safety at heart. None of us could have known he was a terrorist. We’re just as much a victim of his actions as anyone else, yet they blame us.”

Lucretia frowned as she once more swiped her hand, changing the holographic screen to showcase this man’s information. Brenton Richardson was in charge of agriculture, so he would be considered the Secretary of Agriculture. This role was actually important because Academy Island was a self-sustaining nation, and it was his department that helped keep their many greenhouses, hydroponic facilities, and farms running. He was even older than Murphy at 72. She personally thought he should have retired decades ago, but like any stubborn old man, he refused to relinquish his position.

His words sparked the others into action… of course, by “action,” Lucretia meant they began banging their own fists on the table and complaining about how the other nations were treating them after the debacle during the peace conference.

“It’s inconceivable!”

“We’re also victims! How dare they blame us!”

“How were we to know that man was a terrorist!”

It always amazed Lucretia to see how humans could try and cast blame on others rather than accept responsibility themselves. Had these people admitted their wrongs and strove to make things better, she was sure they could have come up with a solution to their current problem… but that would have meant admitting they were wrong, which seemed anathema to them. Truly, the stupidity of some people was ceaselessly amazing.

“I think all of you are forgetting something rather important.”

Everyone stopped arguing when a calm, reasonable voice spoke up. They turned their attention toward the youngest-looking among them.

“Oh? And what are we forgetting, Lucretia Incanscino?” asked the person who had first incited the anger of all these people.

Lucretia Incanscino swung her legs back and forth a few more times. She couldn’t reach the floor since she was too short. However, none of the people present made fun of her for it. Perhaps they understood what they risked by doing so.

“Regardless of whose fault this situation is, it does not change the fact that thirteen foreign delegates died during a peace conference on our soil. It also doesn’t change the fact that over a third of our forces betrayed Academy Island, joined Felton, and attacked the peace conference. Rather than arguing over whose fault this is, don’t you think we should be considering what steps we need to take in order to rectify this situation?”

Her words were perfectly reasonable, so much so that none of the angry board members could say a thing against her. Many of them began looking ashamed. Some of them glanced at the table, others the ceiling. Only one person did not do so.

“You are correct,” Murphy Adams admitted, albeit, he looked like he’d swallowed a lemon. “However, we already have a plan in the works that should pacify the other nations, so there is no real need to discuss this right now.”

“Oh?” Lucretia raised an eyebrow as she crossed her arms. “Then why don’t you tell me what it is? Also, I would like to know why I was not informed of this plan when you invited me to join the Board of Directors as a temporary member.”

Her words made a few of the faces present pale. Lucretia was not a woman any of them wanted to cross, especially after it became known that she was the one who had killed Felton after the man tried to escape. She had already been an infamous figure for the last several hundred years.

“Ahem.”

A cough came from the thirty-something year-old man. Lucretia looked at him. He was relatively handsome with masculine features, broad shoulders, neat black hair, and clear blue eyes. His sharp features gave him an intelligent demeanor. At the same time, his business suit made him look like a young business tycoon who’d discovered a successful new venture that allowed him to finally play with the big boys. He looked out of place among the old people present. Only the dark-skinned woman looked more out of place.

Another swipe of her hand once more caused the holographic screen under the table to change. This man was… Daniel Lewis. He was 37 years-old, had only recently been promoted to the Board of Directors last year—around the same time Anthony had arrived on Academy Island—and was in charge of foreign policy. In a normal governmental system, he’d be the Secretary of State.

On a whim, Lucretia also looked up the information on the woman. Naomi Vasquez. She was only 25, making her the youngest members on the Board of Directors, and her position placed her in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services. She was basically responsible for overseeing all health-related policies.

“I would be happy to inform you of the plan we have conceived,” the man said as he pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “I’m sure you know this, but during the defense of the peace conference, the one who contributed the most to the safety of the delegates was a young man named Anthony Amasius—the incubus who is currently, I believe, under your protection. While very few of our citizens are aware of his contribution during that disaster, every delegate knows what he did. That’s why we’re planning to announce his presence to the world and give him an official government position befitting his status.”

Lucretia narrowed her eyes as a dangerous aura erupted from her. It was not something that could be seen with the naked eye, but everyone present felt it, including the young man, who suddenly broke out into a cold sweat.

“So you plan on having my student work for the government, do you? I see. I see. It is quite bold indeed for you to concoct such a plan. You must have quite the pair on you to create it without informing me, his teacher. And tell me, what kind of position are you planning to give him?” she asked, her voice so cold it could have frozen Cocytus.

Despite the confident look he had worn while speaking previously, the younger man now had sweat forming on his brown as he adjusted his necktie. No matter how confident someone was, no matter how sure of their position and power they were, no one could escape the suffocating feeling that came from being gazed upon by someone who possessed true power.

“We’re planning to, ahem, to give him the official position of Board of Directors President. We believe this position is most fitting given what he has done for Academy Island.” As the young man spoke, he became more and more confident. “Everyone already knows about the battle during the peace conference, but no one knows who was responsible for defending the people. We plan to make a public announcement revealing Anthony’s contribution and the bestowment of his new title. We’re even planning a parade in his honor. We wish to let everyone know who the hero of Academy Island is.”

As he spoke, the many old men were nodding along and smiling at his words. It seemed they had all spoken of this beforehand. The only person aside from Lucretia who did not appear in the know was the dark-skinned woman, who was frowning at them. What was her name again? Lucretia didn’t have much contact with board members outside of Felton, so she couldn’t recall. There wasn’t much information on her either.

“I see.” Lucretia paused for a moment to absorb this knowledge, then nodded once. “Academy Island is run as a Corporate Government. All aspects of life are controlled by the Board of Directors—you—and new laws can only be implemented with a three-fourths majority vote. Decisions are not handled by a single person. While the President can theoretically put forth ideas for new laws and policies, so long as he does not get the three-fourths vote in favor, no policy he proposes would ever be implemented. And since I doubt any of you would ever agree to take any idea proposed by someone so young seriously, your true intention is to turn Anthony into a figurehead. Is that about right?”

Her succinct and cold words caused everyone on the Board of Directors to freeze again. Perhaps the anger she felt toward these people had seeped into her tone because none of them spoke for the longest time. All of them looked at each other, then glanced at the young man who had informed Lucretia of their idea. Only the other woman was looking at Lucretia instead of the man.

“It is not as if he will not be able to put forth any ideas or propose new policies,” the young man said carefully, slowly, as if he was considering every word before speaking them to avoid incurring her wrath. “He can, of course, push forth as many proposals as he wants, and we will take all of them under advisement. However, Anthony Amasius is still young and doesn’t know what it takes to run a nation, so, of course, it will be a while before he can truly influence the laws and policies of Academy Island. But that isn’t to say he’ll never become an influential member. It will just take time.”

His elegant words were flowery and caused everyone else to begin smiling and agreeing with him. Many of them expressed their agreement with words.

“Yes. Yes. That is exactly it.”

“Indeed. For now, Anthony Amasius may just seem like a figurehead, but I’m sure he’ll become a fine President once he learns the ins and outs of governing.”

“I truly believe he will become a fine leader in the years to come.”

Lucretia’s expression became colder the longer she listened to these people, but she withheld her anger. It would not be good to lash out right now. She could slaughter this entire group if she wanted to, but that would only serve to make Academy Island’s precarious position more dire. What’s more, if she lost the protection of the Board of Directors, it would leave her open to a certain someone’s unwanted advances. She needed these people alive and healthy… for now.

“If this is what the Board of Directors has decided, there is little I can do,” Lucretia said at last. “However, I shall be the one to inform Anthony of everything you’ve said here. I will also be in charge of his inauguration and everything else involving him.” The young man who mentioned the idea frowned and looked like he was going to protest, but Lucretia’s mana activated, causing a magic formula to appear underneath the table and freeze everyone in place. “Anthony Amasius is my student. He is also under my jurisdiction. I am also the Head of Security now that Felton is gone, even if this position is temporary, which means anything involving national security is my responsibility. If you wish to contest me on this, you may lodge a formal complaint to have me removed, but know this, if you remove me from this position and approach Anthony yourselves, I will have no choice but to withdraw my support.”

Lucretia might not have been a public figure with a lot of political power, but as an individual said to be on par with the most powerful demons in the world, her name carried a lot of influence. It would not be inaccurate to say that half the reason the other nations stuck to merely complaining was because she was there. The other half was because of the contribution Anthony and his harem made during the defense of the peace conference.

After saying what she wanted to say, she released her magic to allow them a chance to speak. None of them said anything at first. Even the confident young man who’d had to gall to say her student was going to be turned into a political figurehead could not say anything at first.

“Very well,” Daniel said at last. “I think we can all agree to that. Anthony was, after all, placed under your care.”

It didn’t look like any of them actually wanted to agree with her decision. Many of them wore sour expressions. They clearly wanted to use this opportunity to get close to Anthony so they could manipulate him to their whims, but Lucretia would be damned if she ever let these people lay a hair on that boy’s head.

“Good. I’m glad you can all be reasonable people.” Lucretia ignored how the expressions grew even more sour. “Is there anything else we need to discuss?”

“… No,” said Murphy Adams.

“In that case, I’ll take my leave. I will be sure to let Anthony know what’s going to happen with him.”

Before anyone on the Board of Directors could say anything, Lucretia’s body flickered briefly before vanishing altogether. It was as if she had never been sitting on that chair in the first place.

This is such an I interesting world

Similar enough to not need too many details, but different enough to be unique and interesting. This isn't a particularly deep story, and it's not meant to be. But what it does, it does well. Tell an erotic harem adventure story, where everyone (including the villains) seem to be reasonably intelligent.

Great

This book is more slice of life than the previous books seeing Anthony and his girls living in their apartment going out on dates and learning more about each other. In this book Anthony is being setup as the figurehead president of Academy Island. He and his girls also end up getting mysteriously attacked by Custodes Daemonium Brianna's group. One thing I liked to see was that we took a book off from adding girls to Anthony's harem and really got to see Anthony building on his relationship with the three he already has, especially Marianne. Although with this series growing his harem is legitimately important for Anthony's health and power so I'm also looking forward to seeing who he adds next. Great book and really looking forward to the next.

Can't wait for the next volume

This series is one of my favorites I just wish I didn't have to wait so long between volumes. Don't get the wrong idea the story is good and the growth between the MC and the girls is great. It's just as the title says I can't wait for the next one. So if you haven't read it yet then stop wasting time reading this review and read it already.
